Blanche’s spirituality and her politics: Not one, not two.
While going through the cards and emails today, Blanche hands me one and says, “If anyone asks for a short word on what I tried to do in my practice, this is it.” She then asked me to put the card up on her wall.
Our practice is to live our daily life in such a way that every moment, ever act, becomes an act of love. ~~ Thich Nhat Hanh
[Zenkei added: “Or loving-kindness”]
I just found this lovely photo of Blanche and Chitose-san (Hoitsu’s wife). I believe this was taken about 7 years ago when Kannon Do Zen Center had its official opening for the new temple, and Hoitsu-sama came as the most honored guest.
I had collected these during the book project hoping they might put them in. But no.
A Trip to Japan
In 1998, Blanche and 16 other American Zen teachers and practitioners spent over a month in Japan. We practiced everyday Zen at Rinso-in, Suzuki Roshi’s home temple. Blanche, along with two of her students, also traveled to Anteiji, a remote monastery where her dear Joshin-san had lived. Here are a few photos from that wonderful journey.
